Isis Wings     Adult size $65, Children's size $45.

7/6/08 - I have only ONE adult size wing set in a solid color, silky white organza, "M" in the photos below.

Childrens wings are SOLD OUT. Should you be interested in purchasing when/if they are available, please read the text description for detailed size information.

THAT IS ALL I HAVE. I can't get any more of anything because there isn't any more of anything to get! If it says "SOLD", there are NONE available now.

7/6/08: I'm very sorry, but I just have no idea when I'm going to be able to get more wings! Each time I've expected to get them (and announced it here), I'm told they've all or almost all sold out directly from my supplier practically as soon as they come off the boat. I will keep trying! I do have 9 multi color organza wings, very wide variety of patterns and colors (spots, fades, more), not yet pictured. Many are a what I would call odd; off beat colors/patterns. Several are nice fades (amber to orange, light to dark blue slate, some others). If you are interested, email. Right now getting photos of these is low on my priority list (which is extremely long), but if you ask I'm happy to do what I can.

The text description below has DETAILED information on the sizing of these to allow you to determine if they will "work" for you (your height). PLEASE read before emailing/calling asking that question.

CHILDRENS - $45
The length of the wing from neck to end of the wooden rod (top edge of wing) is approximately 25". Elastic fabric covered neck band with velcro closure. Pleats are smaller than adult. Otherwise same overall description as adult wings, below. In Deep orange metallic lame and Metallic plum lame. Scroll down for photos and availability. ADULTS - $65 - General Description

Most are one of two fabric types: metallic lame, which is completely opaque, and silky organza, which is transluscent (partially see-through). Both have enough stiffness to maintain the industrially pressed permanent pleats, while providing flowing movement. Elastic neck strap with front velcro closure. Wooden dowels (you hold ends in your hands and it extends the wings) permanently sewn inside pockets along outside edges; the pockets run most of the length of the edge so the dowels can slide. I mention this primarily in case you want to try and cut and shorten these. If so, you don't have to worry about the dowels, just slide them further back. There are two wings, one on each side, in other words there is a full slit (separation) in the center back.

Size, How To Measure Yourself for Fit

Adult size varies from about 53" - 55" radially, same length all the way around. Measured from center of neck strap straight out radially to edge. Dowels are 30" long.

Children's are approximately 25" from neck center to edge. Pleats are narrower than adult wings, other wise the same design.

To see how this will work on you, hold your arm straight out. Put 0 end of measuring tape at center of your neck front, run down to your hands (to be really accurate, which all of this is NOT :), make a fist with your hands as if you are holding the dowl, and measure to where you'd hold the dowel). That will give you a number less than 53"-55" (the length of the wings). You hold the 30" dowel to extend the wing the rest of the way. Lets say you use about 4" of the dowel to hang on to. Your neck to arm length plus about 26" should be somewhere in the neighborhood of the 53"-55" of the wing. If you are tall and your arms are long, you can grasp the dowel further up.

Also measure from the nape of your neck down your back to the floor to see how far down they will hang.

Can they be shortened?

Generally it's easier for people 5'5" or taller to use these. In theory you should be able to shorten them, or have them shortened. They really should be serged, not hemmed; a doubled hem would probably make the edges too stiff. If you have a serger you should be able to do it; you'll probably need to iron them after working on them (see "Care," below).

How They Are Packaged; Care

These come to you direct from Egypt in carrying cases as shown in the color pictures (below), I don't open and inspect these because frankly it's pretty time consuming to refold them and nearly impossibly to stuff them back in to the carrying case, and doing so just increases the chance of adding wrinkles.

The wings I have opened, or seen opened, have been lovely and had no problems other than some threads needing to be clipped.

You should throw out the carrying case they come in, store the wings hanging, and transport folded along the pleats with as little length wise folding as possible. They most likely will come to you with some wrinkles other than the pleats. Most of these wrinkles will be unnoticable when you are using the wings; some will hang out over time (try hanging in the bathroom while you take a nice steamy shower).

Ironing is also completely possible - tedious as all get-out, but not difficult. Be careful and start with a cool iron, test on an edge and increase the heat a little at a time (I'm not a fabric expert; you don't want to melt them). I ironed an entire organza set of wings (haven't tried it on lame). Obviously you iron following the existing pleats. I used clothes pins to hold together and keep out of the way the pleats I had already ironed as I worked my way across. The pleats can get a little confusing where they get small, but you don't need to get it perfect.

Returns

Regarding returns: In the unlikely event that there are MAJOR problems such as LARGE, extrememly obvious spots, serious tears or holes -- basically, anything that is not easily repairable and/or that will very definitely be seen by an audience seated at a reasonable distance, you can return them without restocking fees. However, small spots and even small repairable holes, seams coming undone, stray threads, etc. are pretty endemic to Egyptian products and if you return due to something like this, you will be charged my normal restocking fee. Normally on costumes I either fix these things before you know about them, or describe them in detail on the website. The low price of these wings reflects in part the fact that I'm not inspecting them before sending them out.
